Will the Mariners have a chance at winning the WS this year?
The Mariners' problem is their hitting. If we traded for a decent bat or so before the deadline without giving up any of the starters in our rotation, we could have a much greater chance of winning the AL West. No starter in the rotation has missed a start all year and the lowest ERA in said rotation is the 3.75 owned by Jason Vargas, which isn't bad at all. If they do reach the playoffs, which is still very much a possibility at this point, I'd think they would have to be seen as a forced to be reckoned with given their pitching, and how they have no gaping holes 1-5 in their rotation. This, combined with at least a league average offense, could give the M's a slight chance to win the World Series, but as has been stressed, only if we pass up Texas in the division.
