How do i fix iPod sync error -69?

I've restored the iPod and tried to sync music to it and it give me an error (-69) I have a 5th Gen video and I'm using the newest version of iTunes. It will let me put one song on it but when I play it, it only plays for exactly 10 seconds and then the iPod freezes. The cord i'm using is broken, I'm thinking that's the problem but i'm not sure, on the part where you plug it into the iPod one side of the plastic casing is broken off so the inside part is exposed, I have electrical tape over it. I ordered a new cord today.
